Essential Functions of the Position

  • Supervision of the PBS team members in area of oversight. This includes hiring, evaluation of competency and performance; conducts mentoring, counseling and disciplinary sessions as needed.
  • Monitor performance of individual team members to ensure revenue cycle key performance indicators are met; supervise, coach, and take necessary action to facilitate achievement of performance targets.
  • Provides communication and education to appropriate departments regarding annual and quarterly HCPCS and ICD10 changes as well as payer trends.
  • Coordinates with appropriate EMSA department leaders as well as external PBS contractors regarding documentation, correspondence, verification, coding and/or revenue concerns as it impacts the revenue cycle process.
  • Prepares and reviews daily reports and identify trends of performance of the PBS department and assists with continuous improvement.
  • Ensure high levels of responsiveness and patient satisfaction for areas of oversight; provide professional interactions through verbal and written communications.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a proactive and timely manner; develop alternative solutions; defuse challenging situations.
  • Monitor staff attendance and approve timesheets.
  • Conduct monthly performance reviews and facilitates monthly team meetings as needed.
  • Provide new employee orientation and onboarding to new PBS team members.
  • Provide continuing education for PBS team members as policies and procedures change.
  • Assist in other related projects and duties as assigned.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare billing processes, HCPCS/CPT, ICD coding, payer reimbursement policies, healthcare compliance regulations such as HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid guidelines.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-driven attitude with ability to meet organizational goals.
  • Ability to work independently and with a group and maintain good working relationships.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 2 years of related experience or associate degree and 4 years of related experience.
  • Coding expertise, licensure, or certification (CAC, CADS, CPC, COC, RHIA, etc.) required.
  • Extensive knowledge of ambulance or physician billing practices and procedural coding
  • Robust understanding of laws and regulation pertaining to health Information, healthcare compliance.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment

  • Work is generally performed in an office setting sitting at a desk for prolonged periods with frequent repeating motions that may include wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Limited exposure to external environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow and ice.
  • Hearing and talking to interpret job functions are frequently required and frequent visual ability to judge distance and space and clarity up to 20 ft.
  • Occasionally may need to lift pull or pull objects up to 25 lbs. in all directions.
  • Frequently required to meet deadlines, work with changing priorities, and assess the accuracy and completeness of work on a regular basis.
  • Frequently use logic to analyze and problem solve difficult situations and communicate to express or exchange ideas using proper English grammar and spelling. Frequently utilize complex math and reasoning skills for budgeting, analysis, and risk assessment.
