This is a full-time position Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:30pm. Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends as necessary as customer demands could cause staff to work outside normal business operating hours.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Yard Spotter is committed, dependable and will promptly and safely handle and maneuver semi-trailers around the warehouse directed by Traffic. In this important role the Spotter will be responsible for operating an Ottowa Spotting Truck and will attach Spotting Truck to trailers to move equipment to and from dock doors to be loaded and unloaded. In addition, the Yard Spotter is also responsible for checking over the equipment, inspecting trailers before moving to include checking tire pressure, tire condition, lights and safe functionality of trailer. This position requires a physical component to perform the job. Much of the day is spent stepping up and down, in and out of the Spotting Truck, jacking and hooking up trailers, frequent walking and bending while spending majority of the workday outside in different seasonal elements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Exercise good judgement to safely operate Spotting Truck around warehousing property
- Hook up and move trailers to appropriate dock to be loaded or unloaded
- Daily inspection of Spotting Truck: Fluid levels, tires, cleanliness, etc.
- With each move, jack and hitch trailers, connect all air hoses and inspect trailer before moving
- Perform trailer inspections and properly fill out inspection forms
- Properly fill out all paperwork with accuracy and detail regarding
- Report and unsafe or suspicious activities in the yard
- Follow direction given by Traffic
- Abide by company safety and security programs
- Be courteous, friendly and professional manner as you are promoting our image everywhere you go

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works outside in the warehouse yard. This position is subject to extreme fluctuations in seasonal weather.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Class A CDL License required
- Heavy equipment experience hooking up and moving trailers and large items
- Must have a favorable Motor Vehicle Record with no major moving violations in past five years
- Current DOT Physical
- Can communicate effectively in English both oral and written
- Meet physical requirements to stoop, bend, twist, reach, squat and crouch
- Use proper techniques to push, pull and lift up to 70lbs
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Two years’ experience hauling preferred but not required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely an active and physically demanding role, however sitting is required when driving the spotting truck. Additionally, being able to hear and communicate effetely as much of the position is spent using a handheld radio to communicate work orders. The Yard Spotter will also need to have good vision to navigate the spotting truck, depth perception to judge distances when backing in trailers and when maneuvering around hazards in the yard. This position will require walking primarily on level surfaces, reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist, lifting as required to hook up trailers and frequent climbing in and out of the spotting truck. Proper lifting techniques are required.
