Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends as necessary as customer demands could cause staff to work outside normal business operating hours.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Yard Spotter is a combined position requires a proactive and detail-oriented person responsible for efficiently working in both the warehouse operations and the movement and organization of the trailers within the yard. This position requires a physical component to perform the job. Much of the day is spent climbing in and out of the Spotting Truck, jacking and hooking up trailers, frequent walking and bending while spending majority of the workday outside in different seasonal elements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Yard Spotter:
- Complete yard truck inspection using the inspection form prior to operating to start of shift.
- Conduct daily yard checks at the start of shift and provide report to warehouse leader.
- Records yard move on the appropriate form daily and turn into management daily.
- Safely operate the yard truck, while facilitating movements of trailers in the yard.
- Efficiently move trailer in and out of the dock doors using proper procedures.
- Communicate effectively with the warehouse to streamline the flow of trailers.
Warehousing:
- Receive incoming shipments, verify the accuracy of the contents, inspect for damage, and label products according to established procedures.
- Prepare outgoing shipments by picking products ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Utilize warehouse management system (WMS) for efficient order processing and inventory management.
- Monitor, investigate, and report to management any discrepancies or issues related to inventory.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize storage practices and timely shipments.
- Any additional duties as assigned by management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works outside in the warehouse yard and in a temper warehouse environment. This position is subject to fluctuations in seasonal weather.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with a forklift
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Heavy equipment experience hooking up and moving trailers
- Meet physical requirements to stoop, bend, twist, reach, squat, and left up to 70lbs.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- One year experience hauling
- One year experience warehouse distribution systems
- One year experience with hand scanners
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is an active and physically demanding role, as the employee is frequently climbing in and out of the spotting truck as well as frequently hand cranking semi-trailers to connect and disconnect trailers. Additionally, being able to hear and communicate effectively as much of the position is spent using a handheld radio to communicate work orders. The Yard Spotter will also need to have good vision to navigate the spotting truck, depth perception to judge distances when backing in trailers and when maneuvering around hazards in the yard. This position will require walking primarily on level surfaces, reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist. Proper lifting techniques are required.
