JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Video Engineer to join our remote broadcast production team for ORU Sports Network and academic media facilities. As a Video Engineer for our TV truck and media facilities, you will play a critical role in ensuring the technical integrity and quality of live broadcasts, equipment installation and equipment maintenance. The ideal candidate will have expertise in video signal management, camera control, troubleshooting broadcast equipment, and ensuring seamless video operations under tight production timelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Video Signal Management:
- Manage video signal routing throughout the TV truck, including SDI, HDMI, and fiber systems
- Configure and monitor signal quality for live feeds, recorded content, and replay systems
Camera Shading & Quality Control:
- Operate and adjust camera control units (CCUs) to achieve optimal image quality and consistency across all cameras
- Balance exposure, white balance, and colorimetry for varying lighting conditions
Equipment Setup and Maintenance:
- Setup and test video monitors, routers, waveform monitors, vectorscopes, and other signal monitoring tools
- Conduct system checks for cameras, encoders, servers, switchers, and other video related equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve video issues in a fast-paced live production environment
Technical Support:
- Collaborate with the Technical Director (TD), Broadcast Engineers, and camera operators to ensure video systems function flawlessly
- Assist in the integration and testing of new technologies, as needed
Broadcast Quality Control:
- Ensure video feeds adhere to broadcast standards and streaming standards, including resolution, aspect ratio, color correction, and quality
- Oversee video playback systems and ensure content readiness for live transmission
On-Site Support:
- Work on-location during live productions to provide immediate technical assistance
- Handle high-pressure situations, such as live signal losses, with composure and professionalism
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience as a Video Engineer, preferably in live broadcast or remote production environments
- Strong understanding of broadcast video systems: SDI, HD-SDI, UHD, fiber optics, and video routing technologies
- Expertise in operating camera control units (CCUs) for shading and calibration
- Experience with broadcast equipment including video switchers, routers, encoders, replay servers, and monitors
- Ability to interpret waveforms, vectorscopes, and other diagnostic tools to ensure optimal signal quality
- Proficiency with broadcast standards such as SMPTE, frame rates, resolutions, and color spaces
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing video systems under time-sensitive conditions
- Willingness to work irregular hours as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to lift and move technical equipment

Preferred Skills:
- Experience with HD workflows and emerging broadcast and streaming technologies.
- Familiarity with IP-based video transport systems (e.g., SMPTE 2110, NDI).
- Certifications such as SBE, Avid, or equivalent technical training.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with a production team.
