Position Information Position Title TU Advocate Job Description Job Summary:Reporting to the Associate Dean of Student Rights and Responsibilities, the TU Advocate provides professional and confidential crisis response, advocacy, and support services to individuals affected by sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, sexual harassment, and other trauma. The Advocate assists in coordinating University support resources and makes referrals to internal and external entities to empower individuals to make decisions that best meet their needs. The Advocate also provides confidential assistance with problem solving, conflict management and navigation of university processes.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
- Serve as a point of contact for individuals in need of confidential support, crisis response, safety planning, advocacy, and referral to resources.
- Assess high-risk situations and assist individuals in accessing crisis support services.
- Assist individuals in connecting to university resources, reporting crimes, and seeking medical attention.
- Accompany individuals to on-campus administrative proceedings, meetings with security or law enforcement, legal proceedings, and/or other related processes, when requested.
- Work closely with students to advocate within the Title IX process.
- Foster and maintain constructive working relationships with Title IX, campus administration and key community partners.
- Create and implement programming related to interpersonal violence awareness and prevention.
- Function as an independent, neutral, and confidential resource for problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Collect and maintain aggregate data for assessment purposes.
- Adhere to strict confidentiality protocols relate to all information and records.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable University, State, and Federal laws and regulations.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Special Job Dimensions:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment with occasional work outside the office environment.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
- Work requires working with highly sensitive or confidential information.

- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field.
- At least two (2) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism under stressful conditions.
- Knowledge of trauma response and stabilization techniques.
- Demonstrated cultural competencies and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Working knowledge of Title IX, the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
- Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field.
- Previous experience providing advocacy or other support services in a higher education setting.
