SUMMARY:
Research and analyze engineering requirements into operational concepts. Elaborate these concepts into top-level designs within the market-driven constraints of fidelity, quality, cost, and schedule. Plan, organize, lead, and participate in (1) the elaboration of top-level systems, software, and hardware designs into the detail design level and (2) the implementation of the detailed designs into the product. Test the product to these designs.
Familiarity with the development of simulation models, software programming languages, hardware processes and procedures, and well-developed computer/network skills are required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as lead engineer with responsibility to direct and coordinate work of other engineering or technical staff.
- Review contract requirements, program and training system specifications, and applicable standards to identify and evaluate programmatic and technical requirements.
- Analyze operational and performance requirements of the overall system and conceptualize candidate top-level design approaches consistent with these requirements. These analyses include consideration of hardware computational capabilities, system latencies, spare time requirements, etc.
- Identify and evaluate interface requirements between the hardware and software. Define top-level interface requirements within the software consistent with system interfaces.
- Perform value engineering trade studies of candidate top-level design approaches to determine the optimum solution, elaborate systems and software approaches into top-level designs, and identify and manage program risks to eliminate unplanned problems and minimize costs.
- Develop detailed designs via analyses, elaboration, and decomposition of top-level interface, operational, and performance requirements.
- Develop software computer code and/or hardware compliant with detail design requirements.
- Software programming in C, FORTRAN, and/or other high order languages. Utilization of the Linux Operating System.
- Perform implementation, integration, and acceptance test of final products.
- Prepare time and cost estimates for completing projects.
- Prepare plans, schedules, workflow charts, and diagrams to specify in detail the operations to be performed by equipment and tasks to be performed by the systems and software personnel assigned to program.
- Ensure system requirements are allocated to configuration items and traceable to validation methods.
- Plan and prepare proposal inputs, technical reports, design specifications, test specifications, test procedures, and other documentation as required for assigned programs.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
