Purpose of Position

Research, design and maintain the aural cueing (sound) systems required for the operation of a full flight simulator and other training devices.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Reviews simulator engineering specifications, malfunction documents, flight test requirements, flight test and aircraft data.
  • Design and test aircraft simulator sound software applications, C/C++,
  • Perform 1/3 octave and narrow-band analysis of aircraft recordings for implementation in the software applications.
  • Create and maintain software and hardware documentation.
  • Create and maintain 1/3 octave tests and perform tuning of the sound simulation to tolerances required by NSB (FAA/EASA/JAA, etc).
  • Provide on-site support of the simulator installation and certification efforts.
  • Works with engineering colleagues, project engineers, and others to achieve a smoothly integrated system.
  • Accountable for the control and distribution of documents and/or equipment subject to export control restrictions and the security of FSI materials, projects and business information regarding the methods and techniques used in the production and usage of FSI products.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.
  • Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance.
  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Presents the simulator performance and handling characteristics to the customer and corrects deficiencies identified by the customer. This may include working at customer facilities.
  • Anticipate travel of 25%.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering Preferably Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Software Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • C/C++ programming skills required.
  • Must be able to develop and implement new software designs using Microsoft Visual Studio or similar development environment.
  • Previous experience in flight simulation software and/or the use of audio rendering software such as Microsoft DirectSound is a plus but is not required for new applicants

Hardware Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic AC and DC Electronics, Analog and Digital Circuit theory

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, calculus, and physics as applies to sound.

Reasoning Skills:

  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
