Position Information Position Title Senior Educational Technologist Job Description The University of Tulsa is seeking a Senior Educational Technologist to enhance the integration and support of educational technologies across campus-based and online programs. This role is crucial in optimizing teaching and learning experiences through strategic support, faculty training, and technology implementation. The Senior Educational Technologist will oversee the University’s Blackboard Learning Management Systems (LMS), lead the adoption of instructional technologies, and provide guidance on digital tools that improve student success and faculty engagement in both face-to-face and online environments .In this leadership role, you will design and deliver comprehensive faculty development programs, manage LMS and other educational technology platforms, and collaborate across departments to ensure technology solutions align with institutional goals.Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
- LMS Support and Faculty Training:
- Provide expert support for the LMS, ensuring faculty are proficient in using the system to design and deliver online and blended courses
- Oversee ticket management systems and academic technology support to efficiently resolve issues related to LMS and other educational platforms for faculty, staff, and students.
- Conduct individualized consultations and group training sessions on LMS functionality, course management, and best practices in digital pedagogy.
- Design and facilitate workshops and training programs to enhance faculty’s knowledge of LMS tools, course design, and educational technology integration.
- Pedagogical Innovation and Educational Technology Integration:
- Collaborate with instructional designers and faculty to develop and implement innovative learning experiences, integrating multimedia, digital resources, and third-party tools within the LMS environment.
- Provide guidance on the use of technology to create personalized learning experiences, foster student engagement, and improve learning outcomes.
- Research and recommend emerging educational technologies and tools that can be integrated into existing systems to enhance course delivery and improve teaching practices.
- Investigate new instructional technologies, assess their potential impact, and provide strategic recommendations for adoption and implementation.
- Technology Expertise and Training:
- Manage a set of educational technology platforms, including the LMS, multimedia tools, and third-party curriculum integrations.
- Create and maintain training materials, documentation, and resources on instructional technology tools and best practices.
- Provide faculty support for integrating digital tools into their courses, ensuring alignment with institutional pedagogical goals.
- Analyze LMS data and generate reports to inform course evaluations, instructional strategies, and student success metrics.
- System Administration and Academic Technology Management:
- Oversee the maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting of the LMS, ensuring its functionality aligns with the evolving needs of faculty and students.
- Collaborate with Information Technology and Security teams to ensure secure, scalable, and effective implementation and operation of educational technologies.
- Participate in the testing and rollout of new LMS features and instructional tools, ensuring their successful integration into the existing academic environment.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Provide day-to-day support for faculty, staff, and students by addressing LMS-related inquiries and resolving technical issues.
- Work closely with faculty, instructional designers, and academic departments to develop technology solutions that meet both pedagogical and institutional goals.
- Facilitate faculty orientations, ongoing training sessions, and workshops to equip instructors with the skills needed to effectively use educational technologies and the LMS.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for academic technology-related inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
- Cross-functional Collaboration and Outreach:
- Collaborate with academic departments, research teams, and administrators to assess instructional technology needs and provide customized solutions.
- Partner with faculty and instructional designers to align technology solutions with curricular goals, ensuring that technology is used to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing across departments, creating and distributing resources that promote effective use of technology in teaching.
- Participate in the planning and execution of institutional initiatives that leverage instructional technology to improve academic success.
- Professional Development and Research:
- Stay current with trends in instructional technology and pedagogy by attending professional development programs, conducting research, and participating in industry conferences.
- Document and share best practices for integrating educational technologies, including the LMS, into teaching and learning.
- Contribute to institutional knowledge by creating and curating resources, guides, and case studies on instructional technology and its role in improving student outcomes.
- Represent the institution in external forums, networks, and professional organizations related to educational technology and instructional design.
- Expertise in LMS administration on the Blackboard Learn platform, including troubleshooting, course design, and platform management.
- Strong understanding of instructional design principles, including the integration of digital tools and multimedia into the curriculum.
- Proficiency in using various educational technology tools and platforms to enhance teaching and learning.
- Strong background in training faculty, with a focus on LMS usage, course delivery, and best practices in online and blended learning.
- Ability to analyze LMS data and generate actionable insights to improve student outcomes.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, instructional design, computer science, information technology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- At least three years of experience with the Blackboard Learn LMS
- Experience managing projects, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Teaching experience is preferred, with a solid understanding of pedagogical best practices in both online and in-person learning environments.
