Job Summary

Under general supervision performs a variety maintenance duties at recreational facilities by performing the following duties.

Job Description

All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs daily maintenance and repairs of parks facilities.
  • Perform general carpentry work in the construction, alteration and maintenance of buildings, doors, windows, screens, and wood fixtures.
  • Prepare wood, metal, plaster, and sheet rock surfaces for painting by filling cracks, holes, and scratches with metal or wood putty and spackling paste.
  • Seal, paint, stain, and finish surfaces using brushes, rollers, and paint spray equipment and hand tools.
  • Utilize standard carpentry and power tools such as joiners, lathes, routers, sanders, power saws and drill presses.
  • Transport tools, equipment, and supplies to job site.
  • Estimate quantities of materials and supplies needed such as sealers, nails, varnish, water, and oil base paints, shellacs, thinners, stains, pastes, tape, and sandpaper.
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
  • Maintain safe working conditions; identify and correct or report unsafe conditions in work areas.
  • Snow removal, sand bagging and cleaning of properties.
  • Performed other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the carpentry trade; and of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; and of departmental policies and procedures.

Ability to plan, lay out, and perform carpentry work; to read and work from blueprints and sketches; to plan, organize and work with others; and to maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform heavy manual labor.

Skill in the use of hand tools, power equipment and materials common to the carpentry trade.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and broad trade knowledge equivalent to two years of training received in a formal apprentice program in carpentry; and over three years full time paid employment in carpentry or related work; or equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one additional year of full time paid employment for one year of the required education with a maximum of substitution of two years.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work subtract, multiply, divide fractions and the fundamentals of place and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages to situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
