---Radiological Technologist
Position Information: Under the direction of a Radiologist, operates x-ray equipment to take radiologic films providing quality images to physicians to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.
Essential Duties:
- Operates X-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body, and to provide X-ray therapy to patients. Ensures prompt submissions of high-quality of all images and documents. May operate mobile X-ray in the operating room, emergency room, or at bedside.
- Adjusts equipment to correct setting for each examination and determines proper voltage, current, and desired exposure time for each radiograph. Ensures equipment is properly functioning. Reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
- Positions and instructs patients. Arranges, attaches, or adjusts immobilization and supportive devices to obtain precise position, to prevent movement, and to lessen discomfort. Observes patient during the procedure and reports abnormal activity.
- Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevents patients from being exposed to unnecessary radiation. Adjusts lead shield to protect unaffected parts of the body from exposure to X-rays.
- Assists the Radiologist in teaching new Radiologic Technologists, students, etc.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Job Requirements
---Qualifications:
Required Education: Associate's degree or Certification in a Diagnostic Radiologic Technology Program, AND:
- 6 months clinical radiology experience.
Working Conditions:
- Physical: Constantly standing. Ability to assist patients on the exam table and place in the appropriate position. May lift, pull, or push up to 50 pounds.
- Environmental: Exposure to radiation. Risk of contracting illnesses from patients.
Certifications or Licenses:
- Radiologic Technologist certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) obtained within 90 days of hire date or certification from an equivalent radiology registry or licensing agency.
- BLS and CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of radiography anatomy and pathology.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a pleasant bedside manner.
- Ability to give instructions to patients who may be nervous and be aware of the patients comfort and confidence.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Organized and ability to handle stress under time constraints.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and materials.
