Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
Ever wonder how Stripe achieves craft & beauty at scale? We built a platform for designing and building great user interfaces called Sail. Whether you’re building a massive web application, embedded UIs, or an SEO-friendly site, Sail has you covered. Sail provides not only a robust design system with reusable components (available in Figma and React), but also all the templates / patterns (e.g. list views, drawers), APIs (e.g. data fetching, access control, observability), and built-in standards (e.g. mobile responsiveness, light/dark mode, embeddability) you need to build a web application. The team is responsible for making web development at Stripe performant, high quality, and easy for developers.
We’re hiring a product manager to define the future of Sail, inflect its impact across the company, and accelerate Stripe’s mission to increase the GDP of the internet.
What you’ll do
You will evolve our design system and web platform to be powerful and opinionated so craft & quality are inevitable across Stripe’s products. Lead our frontend design system and components, used by all products. Bring our web platform to the next level on speed and performance. Develop a vision for how our components get used by non-merchant facing teams (e.g. Link for consumers), third-party developers, and platform customers. Bring data to life with powerful real-time charting experiences. Up-level our opinionated product style, in big (new workflows) and small (surprisingly great) ways.
Responsibilities
- Make the development of products at Stripe faster, easier, and a surprisingly great experience for designers and developers
- Partner with senior leadership to understand and uphold our ambitions for quality at scale
- Develop a strategy and roadmap that transforms Sail into what Stripe will need to achieve its 10-year goals
- Collaborate with engineering and design across time zones (PST, EST, CET) to ship high impact functionality that delights designers, developers, and users
- Define and track success metrics for quality and performance
Who you are
This is an unorthodox role. And you have an unorthodox background. You probably look more like a designer, engineer, or design engineer.
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 10+ years of experience in product management, design, or engineering with at least 3+ years in senior capacity making company-level product decisions
- Strong understanding of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) principles and best practices
- Technical familiarity with frontend development technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js
- Strong written and verbal communication across business, design, and engineering audiences
- Demonstrated experience leading company-wide initiatives influencing technical roadmaps
Preferred qualifications
- Believe that fast software is the best software
- Built robust design systems at scale
- Developed complex frontend applications with sub-1000ms load times
- Strong (informed) point of view on how we web applications should be built and composed
- Enjoy using social media to interact directly with customers for feedback
This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.
The annual US base salary range for this role is $214,300 - $321,500. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
