Oklahoma Technical College is looking for a Plumbing Technology Lab Assistant who supports the delivery of practical, hands-on instruction in the Plumbing Technology program. This position works under the supervision of program instructors to ensure that the lab environment is well-organized, safe, and equipped for student learning. The lab assistant is responsible for preparing tools and materials, assisting students, maintaining equipment, and reinforcing safety procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and organize tools, fixtures, pipe materials, and instructional equipment for lab exercises.
- Assist instructors during lab activities by helping students with plumbing skills and reinforcing safety procedures.
- Supervise students in the lab/shop to ensure safe practices and appropriate tool usage.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab, including disposal of materials and recycling of components as appropriate.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plumbing tools, training rigs, and shop infrastructure.
- Track and inventory materials, tools, and consumables; notify staff of supply needs.
- Help set up and break down lab projects, pipe-fitting assemblies, water supply and drainage system simulations.
- Support the enforcement of OSHA, campus safety, and sanitation standards.
- Attend staff meetings and complete any required safety or instructional training.
- Provide guidance and technical support to students under instructor supervision.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience in the plumbing trade or completion of a technical training program in plumbing.
- Working knowledge of basic plumbing tools, systems, codes, and safety practices.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well with instructors and students.
- Comfortable using and maintaining basic hand and power tools used in plumbing.
- Ability to perform physical tasks in demonstration of plumbing processes and equipment which may require lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
