Position Information Position Title Patrol Lieutenant Job Description The Lieutenant – Patrol will report directly to the Assistant Director/Captain-Patrol or Captain – Gilcrease and will be responsible for providing support to the Department’s Patrol Division under the direction of the Director of UTulsa Security. Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
Operations
  • Perform the operational and administrative duties of an Armed Security Officer.
  • Ensure that the goals of the department and university are being pursued.
  • Inform the Captain of any unusual situations or circumstances that come to their attention.
  • Perform efficient operations and direct supervision of assigned personnel within their assigned squad.
  • Assume complete charge of an incident in the absence of a superior officer.
  • Issue and enforce work orders and directives to their assigned personnel in conjunction with the daily operation of their assigned duties.
  • Interpret policies, procedures, ordinances, and laws, and apply them to university activities and situations.
  • Ensure all employees under their supervision conduct themselves in a professional manner reflecting favorably upon the department and university.
  • Train assigned university employees in the use of university, departmental policies, and procedures and in the proper enforcement methods of federal, state, local laws.
  • Remain informed of all upcoming events scheduled for the university.
  • Track maintenance and distribution of equipment and supplies assigned to the Patrol Division.
  • Testifies clearly and truthfully during campus conduct hearings and legal court proceedings.

Supervision / Leadership
  • Evaluate the performance of assigned personnel and complete performance evaluations.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of Patrol Officer’s uniforms, weapons, equipment, and assigned patrol vehicles to ensure the inventory is aligned with department policies and free of abuse and neglect.
  • Administer recognition and discipline to assigned personnel in a fair and consistent manner in accordance with university policies and procedures.
  • Review Security Officers’ daily work, i.e., Incident Reports, Daily Activity Reports, etc. and ensure the reports are comprehensive and free of errors.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security/traffic control plans for special events occurring on university properties.
  • Perform the administrative duties of a TU Security Officer as needed.
  • Perform extended hours before or after an assignment as the situation or event dictates.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director / Captain – Patrol, Captain – Gilcrease and/or Director of Security.
Required Qualifications Preferred Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to meet and maintain the requirements set forth in 59 O.S., section 1750.1 et seq., The Oklahoma Security Guard and Private Investigator Act
  • Certified for CLEET: Phases 1-4 (Private Investigator & Armed)
  • 2 years in an acting law enforcement or security management position responsible for patrol officer duties or direct reports

PREFERRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security management, or related field.
  • American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification or ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification
  • Currently employed and in good standing with the TU Security Department
Physical Demands The Lieutenant-Patrol position requires physical stamina to perform assigned shift in all types of environmental conditions, safely operate a motor vehicle, safely perform bicycle patrols, perform foot patrol, stand for extended periods of time, defend themselves and others in actual physical combat, occasionally lift and move people or heavy objects, climb or jump physical obstacles, and run various distances. This position requires shift work – hours and days may vary. May be required to work holidays, weekends, and/or after hours for special events hosted on university properties. May be subject to call back in the event of an emergency or because of special events. Will be assigned a primary location, but may be required to work at a different site on occasion, e.g. main campus, Oxley Health Sciences Facility, Gilcrease Museum.
