Position Information Position Title Manager of Public Programs at Gilcrease Museum Job Description Job Summary: The Manager of Public Programs reports directly to the Director of Learning and Community Engagement. This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating public programs that connect the Museum’s mission, strategies, and core ideas to the collections, contemporary culture, and diverse community and university audiences. In collaboration with Gilcrease staff and key stakeholders within our institution, this role serves as the key point of contact for public programs.Essential Functions (Responsibilities): Event Strategy and Execution
- Under the leadership of the Director of Learning and Community Engagement, and in collaboration with community representatives, staff and other stakeholders, design, plan, promote, and implement public programs
- Develop a strategy to enhance the quantity, creativity, and effectiveness of Gilcrease programs
- Organize all documentation and paperwork related to planning and implementing programs, as well as all records for partners and vendors
- Represent Gilcrease at professional conferences
Program Development and Evaluation
- Develop a roster of innovative programs that increase attendance, engage the community, deepen learning, and generate revenue
- Coordinate and implement all aspects of programs, including, but not limited to large-scale social programs and festivals, lectures, symposia, films, performances, workshops, in gallery artist-centric programs, and special projects
- Strengthen relationships with local colleges and universities and create programs for college-aged adults
- Identify strong threads in contemporary culture and community conversations that tie into the Museum’s core stories and mission and create a dynamic forum to explore these developments
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote programs, and develop resources and materials for publications, publicity, and social media
- Collaborate with artists, scholars, and other presenters through traditional, interdisciplinary and innovative practices
- Collaborate with other Museum departments to effectively plan and improve working methods for the successful delivery of public programs as well as coordinate to ensure there is a balance of programs across the institution
- Collaborate with the Learning & Community Engagement team, curators, and other Museum and university staff in researching, developing, and producing interpretive materials for varied constituencies (i.e., adults, college students, volunteers, senior citizens and the general public) as part of public programs
- Collect, analyze, and evaluate programmatic data to revise strategies and improve outcomes
Administrative Support
- Develop, manage, and track program budgets on a regular basis
- Provide administrative assistance on grant projects as assigned by the Director
Special Job Dimensions

Required Qualifications Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Demonstrated creativity in developing new models for programs and visitor engagement
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of contemporary communications, technology, and social media
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Budgeting, billing, and record keeping experience
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse audiences
- Special interest in American history, art history, and Gilcrease collection areas
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
Equivalent Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Art History, History, Visual Arts, Anthropology, Education or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Strong grounding in the history, culture and creative expressions of North America.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience producing public programs and events in a museum or cultural organization.
- Multilingual ability, particularly in Spanish, is a plus.
Special Job Dimensions: Ability to work flexible hours, including frequent evening and weekend hours for programs as required.
