In the realm of technological disruption, the calculation, collection and filing of indirect taxes stand as a classic challenge. Businesses operating in the US and internationally grapple with diverse tax rates and rules, nexus obligations, and registration and filing requirements. This landscape is dynamic, with frequent rule changes and potential legal consequences for inaccurate tax calculations and filings.
Addressing this challenge head-on, we introduced Stripe Tax as a cutting-edge SaaS product in 2021. Our US and Global Tax Content Teams spearhead the management of global tax content that fuels Stripe Tax.
What you’ll do
As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Indirect Tax Research & Operations Specialist to support and grow the U.S. tax content powering the Stripe Tax engine, and to act as subject matter expert for all U.S. indirect tax matters related to the behaviors of the Stripe Tax solution.
Responsibilities
- Monitor indirect tax developments and conduct tax research across the United States at all jurisdiction levels to support the accuracy of existing tax content powering Stripe Tax solutions
- Conduct tax research that drives product expansion into new industry segments and new tax types
- Create requirements depicting tax rates and rules, place of supply logic and economic nexus obligations for a wide range of products and services across multiple US indirect tax types
- Create requirements depicting tax functional behaviors supporting Stripe Tax product initiatives
- Deploy and validate tax content updates across certain Stripe Tax systems
- Assist with drafting and maintaining both internal and user-facing tax product documentation
- Provide subject matter expertise to a variety of teams including Product, Sales, Engineering, Operations, Marketing, and other business and technical teams

Minimum requirements
- 3+ years of relevant working experience in indirect tax within a multinational, tax engine vendor, or professional consulting organization
- A bachelor’s degree or academic equivalent in law, accounting, economics or related field
- A focus on in-depth legal research, and the ability to simplify complex legal tax issues, making them accessible to a broad audience with varying levels of expertise
- The ability to work remotely and independently in a high pressure environment
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented
- A strong tax technical background with the ability to advise on tax technology and automation solutions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred qualifications
- Post-graduate degree in tax or related field and/or professional qualification (CPA, JD or equivalent, Masters in Tax, or LLM or equivalent)
- Knowledge of leading indirect tax technology and end-to-end compliance practices
- Familiarity with leading tax automation solutions (Vertex, Avalara, Sovos, etc.)
The annual US base salary range for this role is $95,300 - $142,900. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
