Community HigherEd is currently seeking a professional Human Resources Specialist for our three college campuses (Community Care College, Clary Sage College, and Oklahoma Technical College). The Human Resources department is responsible for managing all stages of the employee life cycle and administering employee benefits. The department's daily functions include administrative activities, recruitment, onboarding, leave management, performance management, learning and development, compensation/benefit management, and enforcing company policies and practices. The overarching goal of Human Resources is to help the employer build and maintain positive relationships with their employees, and vice versa.
The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations, including recruiting new employees, onboarding, clerical and administrative duties, file compliance, benefits administration, department projects as assigned, and provides general support to employees, applicants, and other stakeholders. The HR Specialist will uphold the utmost confidentiality and professionalism at all times and foster a healthy workplace by maintaining positive relationships and ensuring HR procedures run smoothly at all times.
Full-time, Monday through Friday days, with great benefits!
The ideal candidate will have:
- Two (2) years of human resources or relevant administrative experience is required.
- An associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in human resources administration or business is preferred.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and strong emotional intelligence.
- High ethical standards, always maintaining confidentiality and managing sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Customer-service-oriented with strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to hustle with efficiency and accuracy.
- Administrative experience with strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and related software.
- Proficiency with, or the ability to quickly learn, the organization’s HRIS and talent management system; experience with Paycom is desirable.
- Solid knowledge of employment-related laws and labor regulations
Duties/Responsibilities:
Full-cycle Recruiting
- Collaborates with departmental managers to understand the skills, competencies, experience, and licenses/certifications required for position openings and ensures that job descriptions are accurate and current.
- Responsible for posting positions, advertising, tracking, filtering, and dissemination of candidates to the hiring manager.
- Coordinates interview appointments and communicates instructions and calendar invitations.
- Conducts phone screens and face-to-face interviews of potential employees.
- Communicates timely with the hiring managers, providing candidate status updates
- Prior to an offer of employment, consult with the Human Resources Generalist on candidate qualifications, compensation requirements, offer details, and counter negotiations.
Onboarding
- Conduct new hire paperwork and onboarding meetings with new hires.
- Verify necessary proof of qualifications and paperwork are met for compliance and accreditation
- Conducts timely reference checks, employment verifications, background checks, and drug testing for potential hires.
- Assist with onboarding and new employee training and orientation as needed.
- Timely process all required compliance documentation (e.g. OBPVS and ACCSC qualification records for new and existing faculty).
Clerical and Administrative
- Ensure all letters, handouts, and forms are accurate, updated, and polished in presentation and format.
- Processing employee changes or termination paperwork.
- Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
- Maintain file compliance by ensuring all necessary paperwork and proof of qualifications and ongoing licensures/certifications are met
- Keep employee access to digital files, HR documents, manuals, and policies up to date.
- Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
HR Functions
- Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions and/or sensitive matters to the HR Generalist.
- Assist with performance review processes
- Assist with administering employee benefit plans and insurance coverage
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Other related duties
- Become proficient in utilizing all applicable aspects of HRIS software (Paycom).
- Attend and/or participate in HR events such as benefits enrollments, professional development meetings, recruiting events, and more.
- Manage projects that may include researching, typing, compiling data, and communicating with various individuals or departments to obtain appropriate information.
- Maintain office/desk space neat and clean, secure confidential documents and workspace.

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and phone.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times, such as file boxes.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities, including traveling between local campuses with a personal vehicle.
