Background and Introduction: Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in more than 70 countries around the world. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward its vision by building strength, stability, and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing. Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is an organizational priority at Habitat for Humanity International. One aspect of Habitat DEI efforts includes recognizing and addressing gender inequities to make a measurable and sustainable impact on global housing needs. The Gender Equity Curiosity Collective (GECC) plays a key role in advancing HFHI’s gender equity efforts by identifying promising practices, developing guidance and tools, and enhancing program quality and design. As part of this commitment, HFHI seeks to train up to 80 GECC members on the Gender Marker Tool and how to integrate gender considerations into programming. The Gender Equity Curiosity Collective (GECC) aims to: * Identify promising practices and opportunities for improvement in Habitat’s existing program quality and design. * Learn key priority areas that require global investment and support to advance gender equity. * Influence the development of a gender equity framework, guidance and tools to support Habitat’s global strategy and program outcomes. * Position ourselves more credibly as a leader in promoting global gender equity with donors, peers and stakeholders. * Design and implement programs that authentically and meaningfully address gender inequities within the housing ecosystem. The Curiosity Collective seeks to answer three core questions * Does Habitat know the different housing needs and experiences of men/women, boys/girls in their program? If so, how? * Does the program respond to the different housing needs and experiences of men/women, boys/girls? If so, how? * Are men/boys and women/girls able to influence the program? If so, how? One of the tools that we have developed as part of the Curiosity Collective, drawing heavily from CARE International, is the gender marker. Since developing and trialing the marker with one team, demand for orientation on the marker and its use has grown from inside and outside the Curiosity Collective membership. 2.
