JOB TITLE: Tai Chi Instructor
REPORTS TO: Healthy Living Director
FLSA TYPE: Part time, Non-Exempt
WORK LOCATION: Tandy YMCA
JOB PURPOSE:
The Tai Chi Instructor provides participants a safe, supportive and fun environment to learn and develop basic Tai Chi skills. Our instructors are enthusiastic about their work because they have discovered the joys of introducing participants to Tai Chi, helping them stay physically active, and build positive self-esteem and self-worth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
- Preparing lesson plans/activities and instructing Tai Chi classes.
- Interacting with and supervising youth and providing role modeling and mentoring through demonstration of and participation in activities.
- Responsible for attendance rosters and class/camp participation.
- Communicating with parents/guardians to discuss achievements and concerns.
- Ensure the safety of all students.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of classroom space.
- Reinforce positive behaviors and creative strides.
Required:
- Certification in Tai Chi
- 1 year of knowledge and experience in Tai Chi instruction
- Demonstrate the ability to teach development of skills and proper techniques in Tai Chi specialty.
- Ability to motivate youth effectively and communicate with parents and students.
- Must be willing to work varied hours as needed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age.
Preferred:
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification (will be provided upon employment).
