Job Summary

Under limited supervision, perform maintenance on electrical systems of all county facilities by performing the following duties.

Job Description

All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

Essential Job Functions

  • Comply with all applicable electrical codes, regulations, governmental agency and county directives related to building operations and safety.

  • Execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting and other electrical systems.

  • Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits, etc.

  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units.

  • Read, interpret, and execute drawings, schematics, blueprints and electrical code specifications to see layout of commercial electrical equipment installations.

  • Test electrical and equipment and parts for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.

  • Install, repair or replace AC/DC motors and drives, transformers, starters, relays and hydraulic and gas electrical controls.

  • Install, repair and replace electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic, network cable and line assemblies, lighting and alternative electrical parts.

  • Install, repair or place generators and industrial storage batteries.

  • Work on electrical failures and replace components wherever production time is often affected.

  • Correct connections and wiring on equipment controls wherever incorrect applications may cause harm and dangerous conditions.

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and testing of electrical systems programs, including power distribution equipment and also keep maintenance records.

  • May install, maintain and calibrate industrial equipment and connected devices.

  • Comply with standards and procedures of industry, Safety Manual and abide by safety rules.

  • Perform snow removal, sand bagging and cleaning of properties.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skill in the use of electrical testing tools or any tool necessary to complete job assignments.

Knowledge of schematic drawings; of electrical trouble shooting; of electrical codes; of maintenance, construction and repair; of the hazards and safety precautions of the work; and of departmental policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain physical stamina to perform heavy labor; to logically plan order of work and phases of jobs; to estimate man hours required and cost for specific jobs; and to use hand and mechanical tools and equipment.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software, Internet software, Inventory Control software, Project Management software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has occasional supervisory responsibilities. Must be willing to assume the supervisory duties of the Electrical Coordinator in their absence.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED; plus three years related experience and/or trade school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of place and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Unlimited Electrical Journeyman License
