Job Summary

Leads the development and is responsible for execution of the strategy for acquisition of critical resources, including material and external engineering and associated services. The director is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of a center-led Engineering Services Center of Excellence to improve coordination between OECs and AEP in planning and evaluation of projects to reduce costs and improve project efficiency.

In addition, the director performs a leadership role in the design and implementation of a Supplier Relationship Management / Optimization Program to drive proper project performance behaviors that promote and achieve added value to the business. The director is also responsible for overseeing the development of all standards for station, transmission line, protection and control engineering, design, material, equipment, construction, and the specification of associated equipment and materials.

The group supports the engineering needs of operating and maintaining existing transmission facilities as well as associated regulatory reporting and compliance activities. These activities are to be executed in a manner that ensures application of technically and economically appropriate solutions in accordance with corporate direction and with due consideration to employee and public safety, system reliability, regulatory compliance, system operability/maintainability, and project budget and scheduling requirements.

Job Description

What you'll do:

  • Direct and implement a center-led Engineering Services Center Of Excellence to improve coordination between OECs and AEP in planning and evaluation of projects to reduce costs and improve project efficiency.

  • Design and implement Supplier Relationship Management / Optimization Program to drive proper project performance behaviors that promote and achieve added value to the business.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of technical specifications, standards and methods for materials, equipment, engineering, design and construction of stations, transmission lines and protection & control to ensure continual improvement in the application of technically and economically optimal materials.

  • Ensures that all standards or "best practices" developed by the Engineering Standards teams are in accordance with accepted industry, governmental and regulatory rules or standards.

  • Ensure that quality control processes and practices are in place to align with the Transmission quality expectations and metrics.

  • Direct the development of best practice engineering methods to provide expert technical guidance to the engineering production teams.

  • Direct the engineering software and CAD systems including training, policy development and interpretation, and short term and long term software needs, including Smart 3D and Document and Database Management.

  • Develop and provide training and technical leadership to appropriate personnel regarding equipment operations, standards, and maintenance.

  • Collaborate with our technology teams on finding innovative solutions to enhance customer experience.

  • Work with the Procurement and Supply Chain teams to ensure that equipment contracts and their execution meet our standards for both quality and timeliness, and that fulfilling one does not come at the cost of the other.

  • Contribute to annual development of the capital forecast pertaining to AEP stations, transmission lines and protection & control in support of corporate and business unit strategy, in a manner which effectively organizes and addresses customer and public projects, planned system improvements, equipment troubles, facilities rehabilitation, and other capital work.

  • Develop internal operating budgets and salary budgets for Engineering Services.

  • Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with the policies, practices, standards, and rules of the Company and regulations and procedures as required by federal, state or local regulating agencies.

  • Contribute to safety investigations as required.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering with specific training in electric power systems.

Experience:

  • Minimum of twelve years' engineering experience with strong knowledge and experience related to power system design, operation, construction and associated equipment, including three years' experience in power system engineering.

  • Minimum of three years' supervisory experience in engineering, construction or operations assignment.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Professional Engineer is preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Promote and enforce corporate safety and health practices and programs.

  • Remain knowledgeable of best practices and materials, processes, and associated tools through review of relevant literature, participation in industry activities and standards groups, and through contacts with suppliers and other industry experts.

Compensation Range:

$183,033.00-237,941.50 USD
