Salary Grade: Business Grade 11/ BG-11

Tulsa Public Schools’ existing salary schedules provide career increment adjustments based on education/experience and/or years of creditable service. Position Summary: Working in partnership with the Executive Director of Communications and Strategy, provide day-to-day management and strategic oversight of district-level public relations, social media, and system-wide messaging and media relations for Tulsa Public Schools. The Director of Communications will ensure that the district keeps families and
stakeholders informed and engaged and supports school teams with consistent and timely messaging and materials for team members and families. Will develop communications on key district, city and state issues ensuring district messaging is aligned. Manage media inquiries and events, as well as serves as a spokesperson for the district. Serve as key contact for district teams to support planning and implementing communications strategy with strong internal and external communications while supporting district leaders with messaging on key issues and initiatives. The successful candidate will develop and execute an effective social media strategy that highlights the district’s strategic priorities, core values and beliefs, and drives the narrative of Tulsa Public Schools as a destination for excellence to teach, learn, and work.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields
Experience:

• Five (5) years of experience in communications, media, public relations, or similar roles
• Three (3) years of experience working with traditional media outlets (print, radio, broadcast) and/or writing for print media
• Three (3) years of experience with social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, with proven success in expanding platform reach and engagement
• Experience developing media releases, content for social media, and marketing and public relations collateral, including superior editing and proofreading skills
• Experience in a school district or education-based setting preferred
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite
• Extensive experience with social media monitoring software
