Position Summary:
The Hughes-Treitler-FMH Director OPEX role is responsible for assisting three facilities with ensuring a culture of Continuous Improvement is both present and flourishing in their operations. The position plays a critical role in the budget planning and execution of the business unite OPEX savings plan, tracks progress towards project goals, and helps the business execute identified projects through on-site Kaizen and workshop events. The position also plays a critical role in identifying, hiring, and training Lean Thinkers that continue to ensure the business unit has skilled practitioners to ensure gains are held. It also ensures that a constant funnel of prioritized business improvement opportunities are brought forward to execution. A key focus will be transfers of product from the Garden City and Irvine facilities to Reynosa, Mexico.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The successful candidate in this role needs to be able to influence action without direct reports. There are two sub business units who make their own financial decisions within the larger business unit, and it is critical that this role acts as a Business Partner with the site managers to align on where project resources will be applied.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Excellence Budget proposals and executions for three facilities within the business unit, ~$150M Business Unit
- Identifying internal talent and training on Lean Manufacturing principles and assisting leaders to hire outside talent when required
- Provide Business level Manufacturing Health Assessments to the DVP Business Unit Manager
- Act as a Business Partner to the two Business Managers, Director HR, Business Development, and Finance departments. Coordinating project priority and supporting with travel for on-site Kaizen or Workshop events
- Ability to travel to business units sites (Garden City, NY, Irvine, CA, and Reynosa, Mexico)
- Project Management for approved Capital Projects
- Preparation for and Presentation in Corp Budget, Strategy, and Operations Reviews
- Representing the business unit in Corp OPEX Collaboration sessions and functions
Requirements for Consideration:
- Minimum 10 years experience demonstrating effective and measurable Lean Manufacturing Operations results in an Industrial Manufacturing Environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills allowing you to effectively work and communicate in every level of the organization including direct labor, managers, site leadership, and executive teams
- Proven catalyst for change management
- Cultural diversity, proven track record of working effectively and understanding nuances of leading teams in the US and Mexico
- Understanding of standard industrial fabrication techniques including, but not limited to, conventional machining, welding, brazing, assembly, and system testing
- Ability to travel to business unite sites including but not limited to Garden City, NY, Irvine, CA and, Reynosa, Mexico
- Ability to prepare and present Capital Project proposals, clearly define expense and payback opportunities and communicate benefits and needs to approvers
Education/Experience:
- Master Black Belt Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent Lean Manufacturing certifications tied to an active application of the improvement tools in a manufacturing environment
- Proven ability to identify and educate employees in the area of Lean Manufacturing Operations
- Data expert, capable of retrieving data, analysis, and making recommendations for areas of improvement
- Lean Practitioner, recent and frequent application of productivity tools such as Standard Work, Heijunka wheels, SMED, and Value Stream Mapping
- Strong Project Management skills, coordinating efforts of teams you do not directly control to stay on plan on approved projects
- Strong experience with demand material flow, kanban, visual shop floor controls, and the ability to teach these concepts and assist teams with implementing them
- Oracle and SAP MRP experience a strong plus
- On the Fly Tooling design experience for SMED a strong plus
