Description

Job Summary: The Cyber Security Engineer II serves as a subject matter expert for firewall and cloud infrastructure used by the Cyber Security Team. Responsibilities include driving the adoption of best practices, advising on technology projects and initiatives, ensuring the CIRT teams have the necessary systems and tools, actively managing security tools and contributing to process improvements.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports IT, Governance, Application and Security teams in designing, developing, and documenting technologies to meet their objectives.
  • Acts as the technical lead for Firewall lifecycle management and other security tooling.
  • Provides support to the cyber tool administration team, serving as a mentor and point of escalation for issue resolution.
  • Drives continuous improvement by understanding, documenting, and suggesting enhancements to processes involving security toolsets.
  • Advocates for the implementation and configuration of best practices for cybersecurity capabilities to ensure their efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Recommends new or alternative technologies as appropriate to better support company objectives.
  • Communicates complex technical information effectively to all levels of personnel, from front-line workers to executive leadership.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cyber security, or related field and 5 years’ experience in a cyber security related position. Working knowledge with the following technologies/vendors required: Palo Alto Firewalls, Routing, SIEM, Identity and Access Management concepts, Cloud provider experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of common cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts, operating systems, and security fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with security tools such as antivirus software, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, etc.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates strong multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, customer service, cybersecurity, problem solving, teamwork, and written communication

Preferred Equipment or Software Knowledge or Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience managing Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Strong networking background with core routing and switching topologies/configuration and troubleshooting
  • Hands on experience with cloud-based infrastructure, deployment models, and security technologies.
  • Understanding of application/network layer protocols such as HTTPS, SFTP, and SSH.
  • Relevant skills or certifications from major security vendors.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux/Unix environments.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with common security tools SIEM, EDR, IAM, Vulnerability Scanner, etc.
  • Experience with common ticketing systems, physical and virtual infrastructure tools

Work Environment:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Some travel is expected.
