Manufacturing Controller (HVACR contracting)
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Tulsa, OK

Overview:
The Controller plays a key executive leadership role, responsible for overseeing the financial health and integrity of the company. This position ensures proper accounting, reporting, and financial controls are in place while supporting the company’s strategic goals. The Controller manages all financial activities, including general ledger oversight, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, capable of handling confidential information with discretion.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting & Financial Oversight:

  • Develop and implement accounting strategies, policies, and procedures to support business goals.

  • Ensure financial activities comply with legal, regulatory, and industry standards.

  • Provide timely and accurate financial reporting, including daily, monthly, and annual statements.

  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and accruals.

  • Work closely with external CPAs for annual reviews and tax filings.

  • Conduct cost analysis, trend analysis, and financial forecasting to support decision-making.

  • Analyze cash flow, investment options, and debt management; recommend improvements as needed.

  • Oversee financial systems including HR/payroll, fixed assets, cash management, and expense control.

Department Operations & Administration:

  • Supervise daily accounting functions and manage departmental staff.

  • Monitor cash flow and aging reports; coordinate collections and initiate liens when needed.

  • Conduct credit evaluations for clients and manage vendor relationships.

  • Approve general ledger entries, vendor payments, and account write-offs.

  • Serve as liaison with external legal, financial, insurance, and bonding professionals.

  • Review and manage company credit card accounts and purchasing controls.

Job Costing & Construction Accounting:

  • Manage job cost reporting, work-in-progress evaluations, and job billing reviews.

  • Coordinate subcontractor/vendor contract disbursements and bid actions.

  • Collaborate with project managers and estimators to evaluate procurement strategies.

  • Lead monthly job cost report meetings and update internal and external reporting schedules.

Payroll & Human Resources Support:

  • Oversee accurate processing of weekly and biweekly payroll.

  • Ensure timely tax filings, garnishments, and fringe benefit reporting.

  • Administer employee benefits, including 401(k) plans and health programs.

  • Support recruitment, performance reviews, training, and development.

  • Maintain compliance with certified payroll, Davis Bacon, and prevailing wage laws.

  • Manage paid time off policies and oversee insurance and workers’ compensation claims.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
    OR at least 5 years of accounting or financial management experience

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

  • Hands-on experience with departmental P&Ls, reconciliations, AP/AR, job costing, billing, payroll (including Davis Bacon), GL management, and inventory control

  • Understanding of construction or project-based accounting principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA license or MBA in a related field

  • At least 3 years as a Controller or Treasurer in the HVACR or construction industry

  • Deep knowledge of state and federal fiscal laws and trends in contracting

  • Experience in contract and bid evaluation within construction or HVACR fields

  • Prior experience with general or trade contractors

  • Advanced computer skills with light IT troubleshooting capabilities
