The Director of Communications and Community Outreach is responsible for leading external and internal communications, managing media relations and coordinating community outreach opportunities for the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office. This position will work with media to answer questions, write statements and press releases, facilitate media interviews and distribute a monthly internal newsletter. This position also works with nonprofits to partner on community events and collaborates with the District Attorney, First Assistant and others on a range of projects to meet the needs of the office. We are looking for a candidate who is an excellent communicator, a self-starter and has an interest in public service.Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Develop external and internal communication strategies for media and community outreach as well as within the office
- Write and distribute news releases and media advisories
- Manage media requests and requests for interviews
- Speak on camera or radio for interviews
- Manage and update the office website
- Organize and assist with office events
- Monitor media coverage
- Manage and update digital bulletins located in public lobby areas
- Write and distribute monthly internal newsletter
- Track and stay up-to-date on high-profile court cases
- Coordinate community outreach activities and events
- Attend community events as a representative of the District Attorney’s Office
- Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effectively communicate orally and in writing
- Ability to multitask in a busy environment under time constraints while working with multiple agencies, attorneys, legal staff, the public and community leaders/organizers
- Knowledge of communications and understanding of media practices
- Effectively present information and respond to questions in a timely manner
- Knowledge of legal terminology a plus
- Computer skills, primarily MS Office
- Graphic design skills, primarily Canva
- Ability to work independently and with initiative as well as to be part of a team
- Ability, with or without accommodation, to meet the physical requirements of the job, which is in a high-traffic office setting with moderate noise; While performing the duties of this job, incumbent is regularly required to talk and hear, stand and walk, sit, bend and stoop use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate objects; must occasionally reach overhead with hands and arms, and may be required to lift or move up to twenty (20) pounds. Close vision is required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in related field
2+ years relevant work experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Strong communication skills required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include ability to see close, at a distance and in color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the normal functions of this job. Normal office conditions. Potential problems may exist with clients or defendants exposed to stressful situation. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. This position is full-time in office at the Tulsa County Courthouse.
TRAVEL: 0-5%. May occasionally need to travel out of town for training or meetings.
