Pay Grade: A19
FLSA Status: Exempt

Under general supervision of City Attorney or designee, serves as prosecutor for municipal court cases, performs other duties as assigned.

*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*

Essential Job Functions

  • Advises City officials and personnel on legal matters in order to minimize the risk of litigation.
  • Researches laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and treatises in order to advise the City on legal matters.
  • Creates, prepares, or amends ordinances, codes, policies, resolutions and regulations.
  • Responds to questions and problems presented by private individuals and City personnel regarding City business.
  • Reviews complaints and code violations filed in Municipal Court.
  • Consults with attorneys representing parties in Municipal Court.
  • Reviews Petitions for Criminal Expungements and drafts, edits Expungement Orders and attends such hearings as necessary.
  • Reviews and processes open records requests.
  • Prosecutes Municipal Court cases.
  • Provides legal advice to the Police Department, Code Enforcement and Municipal Court Clerks.
  • Coordinates the Municipal Court juvenile program.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of comprehensive training programs for City employees.
  • Maintains and advances professional knowledge and skills.
  • Drafts letters in response to requests from private attorneys, citizens, and special interest groups.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires graduation from an accredited School of Law, with no experience required; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of balancing, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
