Ability is required to conduct legal research; to prepare materials for use in court; to evaluate, summarize and report results of research; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Knowledge of· Business English and arithmetic· Computer technology principles, terminology, and automated systems· Office practices· Complex records maintenanceSkills in· Operate standard office equipment· Interpersonal skills· Computer and applicable software use· Proficient in Microsoft Office programs· Exceptional attention to detailAbility to· Edit and correct rough copy· Handle confidential work with tact and discretion· Make routine decisions in accordance with agency policy· Deal tactfully with the public· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others· Follow oral and written instructions· Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing· Work effectively in a fast-paced environment· Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines· Prepare complex legal documents and formsLEVEL DESCRIPTORThe Legal Research Assistant job family consists of only one level and incumbent employees will be responsible for performing all functions associated with the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience requirements consist of completion of eighteen semester hours from an accredited school of law; or completion of an American Bar Association approved legal research assistant program; or completion of a bachelor's degree in legal studies.PREFERENCE STATEMENTPreference may be given to applicants who have at least 2 years of experience as a legal secretary.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSThis position may require occasional travel. Applicants must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to perform all job-related travel. Possession and maintenance of a valid Oklahoma State Driver’s License is also required.Core work hours for the Tulsa office of the Oklahoma Tax Commission are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This schedule may require minor flexibility based on the needs of the agency.Telework may be required based on the needs of the agency, division, and section. If applicable, applicant must be willing and able to work BOTH on-site and telework at an off-site location, generally in the applicant’s home.
