This is an active and physically demanding role, as the employee is frequently climbing in and out of the spotting truck as well as frequently hand cranking semi-trailers to connect and disconnect trailers. Additionally, being able to hear and communicate effectively as much of the position is spent using a handheld radio to communicate work orders. The Yard Spotter will also need to have good vision to navigate the spotting truck, depth perception to judge distances when backing in trailers and when maneuvering around hazards in the yard. This position will require walking primarily on level surfaces, reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist. Proper lifting techniques are required.
